Leon Holmes is an international award-winning Australian artist, lecturer and ambassador who has made himself a global name as one of the most enthusiastic and successful professionals in Plein Air Oil Painting. Born and raised in Perth, Leon’s career started with printmaking, graphic design, art direction, illustration and photography before becoming a full-time artist in 2003. His featured artwork “Summer Thunder” depicts the Stirling Ranges, painted from studies created during six weeks camping with his mobile studio, producing about 60 pieces. The painting captures light-dark relationships of grey clouds drifting across a typical Australian landscape with impressionistic freshness and bold mark-making. Leon paints prolifically worldwide, from European streetscapes in Venice and Holland to the Grand Canyon, often creating 8-10 paintings daily. He believes art brings soul to homes in today’s digital world, creating personal human connections and dinner conversation pieces that restore the personal touch to life.
