Round 1 Basil Antonas

Artist bio

Basil creates paintings with expression and movement through spontaneous yet refined tactile forms and colour usage. Fine textural details give his works distinct depth and tangibility. Based in Parkerville, Western Australia, he has exhibited in several solo exhibitions and group shows, with his work ‘Rawness’ winning best Painting Open Theme at the 2017 Cossack Art Awards, Western Australia’s richest regional acquisitive art award. His paintings hang in homes from Australia to Italy. Basil’s featured artwork depicts a cascade of rainforest greenery inspired by his regional environment, topped with a moody sky and white representing water. He creates “emotional landscapes” designed to evoke feelings rather than literal recognition. Basil believes art is essential for contemplating and celebrating life, judging society’s progressiveness by its willingness to break rules through creative expression. He advocates for greater arts visibility in media and community, viewing art as fundamental to human nature dating back to cave paintings.
