Round 1 Brendon Darby

Artist bio

Brendon Darby is an accomplished painter and musician with over 50 solo exhibitions across Australia and internationally, including shows in London, Rome, Hong Kong, Austria, and major US cities like New York, Houston, and Aspen. His 2007 multi-media presentation “Listening to Paintings – Australia” premiered at the New York Museum of Natural History during Australia Week celebrations. A finalist in prestigious awards including The Archibald Prize and Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, Brendon’s work explores abstraction through unconventional methods. His featured piece emerged from observing rain distorting city lights on a car windscreen in Sydney, leading to an obsessive pursuit of capturing this effect. This journey included building a rain machine on his van and traveling to Singapore during monsoon season. Brendon advocates for arts education freedom, believing children’s natural creative expression shouldn’t be corrected or constrained, emphasizing the importance of supporting arts that allow free expression without conformity.
