Round 1 Jill Ansell

Artist bio

Jill Ansell is a painter and assemblage artist who has twice been a finalist in the Lester Portrait Prize and a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. She is the recipient of numerous art awards including the BankWest Open Art Award, Victoria Park Art Award, York Art Award, Town of Cambridge Art Award, and Town of Vincent Art Award. Her work is held in public and private collections nationally and internationally. Working across subjects from local beaches to surreal desert landscapes, she creates in oils, acrylics and assemblage, though portraiture is her favourite subject. Her featured artwork depicts Borranup Forest, painted as a long-overdue engagement present for her brother and fiancé. Despite preferring portraits, she persevered through multiple attempts to capture the beloved forest location with its lovely caves. Jill believes supporting local arts is vital for preserving original ideas and stories from our own places and people, preventing them from being drowned out by overseas influences.
