Melbourne Coffee Week 2025

The Roasting Summit 2025 is “a GRAMMY-LIKE event for roasters & passionate industry people” and MICE (Melbourne International Coffee Expo). 2025 has been a rollercoaster year with rising coffee prices, unstable weather patterns impacting crops and challenging green bean buying conditions. That’s why Melbourne Coffee Week couldn’t have come at a better time. Coffee, as we have touched on before in previous blogs, is the world’s most consumed beverage.

Our industry is built on passionate people, hard work and pure dedication to the craft. The morning routine of so many is reliant on our industry, and so naturally we were thrilled to be able to send our head roaster and green bean buyer, Marte, to Melbourne to experience this summit which was sponsored by Loring and hosted by Anne Cooper of Equilibrium Master Roasters and the publisher of Roast Magazine, Connie Blumhardt. At Leaf Bean Machine we invest in our beans, our craft and our people, so we certainly didn’t want to miss the opportunity to attend both events!

The 2025 roast summit in Australia for the first time, followed by a record attendance & a sold out Melbourne International Coffee Expo.

Coffee isn’t just a drink—it’s a global industry built on passion, hard work, and dedication. It fuels the daily routines of millions, and for those of us in speciality coffee, events like this are an opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. That’s why we were thrilled to send our head roaster and green bean buyer, Marte, to Melbourne to experience two of the most significant events in the roasting world: First up was The Roasting Summit 2025, a deep dive into the science and craft of roasting. Next Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) brought together the best in the industry for a showcase of innovation, networking, and education.

As a company we value investing in our craft, and our people, so we couldn’t miss this chance to be part of it all.

What is the Roasting Summit & Why Does it Matter?

The Roasting Summit is a gathering of coffee professionals dedicated to advancing the craft of roasting. Over two days, attendees took part in workshops, discussions, and networking opportunities designed to deepen their understanding of roasting science, machine efficiency, and quality control. It’s more than just a conference—it’s an immersive experience that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in coffee roasting.

Why Attending Coffee Events is a must for Leaf Bean Machine.

The coffee industry is constantly evolving, and staying ahead means keeping up with new trends, techniques, and innovations. Events like the Roasting Summit and MICE provide roasters, like Leaf Bean Machine, with the opportunity to connect with suppliers, discover new coffees, and refine their skills.

One of the biggest advantages of attending industry events is the opportunity to meet and learn from
  • Farmers, equipment manufacturers, green bean suppliers, and other roasters. Coffee is a relationship-driven industry, and these events are the perfect place to build connections that can lead to new sourcing opportunities, business collaborations, and long-term partnerships.
Beyond networking, these gatherings provide insight into the
  • Latest trends shaping specialty coffee. Whether it’s experimental processing techniques, sustainability initiatives, or advancements in roasting technology, staying informed ensures that roasters can continue to produce high-quality coffee that stands out in an increasingly competitive market.
Another key benefit of attending events like MICE and the Roasting Summit is the chance to
  • Get hands-on with the latest equipment. With so many new roasting machines, grinders, and brewing devices entering the market, being able to test and compare them in person makes a huge difference when making purchasing decisions. Live demonstrations and expert-led sessions also provide valuable insights into efficiency improvements and maintenance tips that can enhance a roasting operation.
For those looking to glowup their craft, the Roasting Summit is an unmatched opportunity to
  • Deepen roasting knowledge. Through in-depth discussions on topics like airflow control, charge temperature, and drum speed, attendees gain a better understanding of how to perfect roast profiles and maintain consistency.
At MICE, the focus shifts to
  • Exploring new coffee origins and sourcing opportunities. The expo features an incredible lineup of green coffee producers, exporters, and traders, making it an ideal place for roasters to discover unique beans, build direct trade relationships, and learn about the challenges facing coffee-growing regions around the world.
Beyond education and sourcing, industry events also provide a powerful platform for
  • Building brand recognition. For roasters looking to grow their businesses, attending major coffee expos can lead to increased exposure, new wholesale clients, and valuable media coverage. Competitions and panel discussions offer further opportunities to establish credibility and showcase expertise. But perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of attending speciality coffee events is;
  • Inspiration that comes from being surrounded by passionate coffee professionals. Whether it’s watching world-class roasters compete, discovering a new processing technique, or simply sharing a coffee with like-minded individuals, these events reignite the passion that drives the industry forward
