Shanti is a Perth-based printmaker and mixed-media artist who works from her studio in Forrestfield. Her piece “There is no such thing as identical III” combines screen printing with drawing, featuring repeated triangular patterns that explore themes of societal constraints and individual experience.
The artwork reflects her interest in how people are bound by social rules and regulations while still maintaining individual agency within those structures. She uses triangular forms as metaphors for strength and interconnection, drawing lines within printed blocks to represent our connections to others and our environment.
Shanti’s creative process is intuitive – she often doesn’t know why she’s making something initially, but meaning emerges through the act of creation. This particular piece was created during a family trip down south, printed on a laundry bench with her children’s help. Only one of six prints succeeded, making it especially precious to her.
She regularly exhibits locally and participates in group shows, encouraging others to engage with art by attending exhibitions and asking questions without fear.
