Beauty in the Quiet Gestures of Nature
Meet Sharon D Clifford — West Australian artist, maker, and dedicated student of colour and nature for over 30 years.
Sharon has always created. From her early training in textiles, to teaching handwork and painting for years, to now working from her studio in Perth’s southern suburbs—her entire life has been shaped by an endless curiosity about what happens when materials, process, and presence meet.
Today she works in watercolours and a remarkable range of natural materials: dried seed heads, plant fibres, botanical prints on silk, handmade books, and woven baskets. She also paints interiors in a technique called ‘Lazure painting’ — layering colour onto walls so gently they seem to breathe with life.
Her art cup, Crowd of Parsley, is made from actual parsley seed stems. Nature, literally in your hands.
“I wanted you to wrap your hands around a warm cuppa and embrace the beauty of nature.”
We think she nailed it.
