Coffee Meets Art – Decorative Winnie by Michelle Campbell

We’re thrilled to feature Decorative Winnie by Western Australian artist Michelle Campbell on our Round 5 Karvan Art Cup.

This charming portrait of a beloved rescue dog is part of Michelle’s 2022 exhibition Dogs on Chairs, held at Gallery 152 in York. The series invited dog families to participate, and Winnie’s owners eagerly volunteered. A seasoned model who had even appeared in calendars, Winnie was the perfect subject – calm, poised, and full of personality. Captured perched gracefully on a decorative lounge chair, she became the heart of this beautifully composed piece. The painting was later purchased by her owners and now hangs proudly in their bedroom.

Michelle selected Decorative Winnie for the Art Cup Project because of its striking design and rich colour palette, which translate beautifully onto the curved form of a coffee cup. “It has a strong design and colour component that works well on cup contours,” she explains.

For Michelle, this project is not only about sharing art but also about celebrating local creativity. “It’s wonderful to extend the life of Decorative Winnie while promoting Western Australian artists,” she says. “Our artists interpret the place and identity of WA in ways that can’t be replicated elsewhere.”

You can discover more of Michelle’s expressive and character-filled portraits on Instagram @michellecampbell4025 or through WA Portrait Artists.

Keep an eye out – Michelle hopes to bring Dogs on Chairs 2 to life in 2026!
