Daniela identifies as a Queer Chilean artist based in sunny Perth, Western Australia. Art has been part of her identity since early childhood, deeply inspired by her mother, who studied art in school and maintained it as a hobby after becoming a young mum. Years later, she’s creating her first art studio and finally pursuing her dream of selling her art.
Her art cup features “Oranges,” painted during strict Sydney lockdowns in 2020 whilst sharing a studio apartment with her partner. Struggling with mental health, she took up painting again, failing many times before creating “Oranges”—her best work yet. This intimate painting serves as a gentle reminder to enjoy life.
When selected for the Art Cup project—the same week she moved to Perth from Sydney—Daniela experienced overwhelming joy, describing “ugly crying” at both the congratulations email and seeing cups circulating throughout WA. As a queer artist, she believes supporting the arts enriches human connection and self-expression, celebrating the constant discovery of different versions of ourselves.
