Weaving Worlds Into Your Morning Cup – Portal by Cathy Inman
Cathy Inman grew up with her hands in the earth. From gardening with her mum in the Perth Hills as a little one, to studying horticulture, to working as a gardener — nature has always been her constant. It kept her grounded, and eventually, it handed her an art form. Surrounded by prunings and plant material that most would cart to the green bin, Cathy started to weave. Today she is a sustainable fibre artist, gathering found and foraged plant fibres from her local area to create sculptural and functional works of quiet beauty.

Cathy believes creativity is a right, not a luxury – and that the ancient art of basketry, once essential to human survival, must be passed on before it is lost. Her Art Cup piece, Portal — woven from plant fibre and silk and standing 1.6 metres — is exactly what its name suggests: a gateway to other worlds, other possibilities, and other ways of seeing. She chose it because she wanted you to feel that magic in your hands with every sip.
