For five generations the Valdes family have produced exceptional coffee. The beans are hand-picked to ensure premium ripeness, fully washed and sun-dried on patios. Santa Isabel trains and employs 40 permanent workers year-round, and produces just 2000 (69kg) bags of green coffee beans annually.
A picker at Santa Isabel can harvest up to 160 pounds of coffee cherry per day, making the farm one of the most stable a reliable workforces in the region. In addition to paying fairly, their coffee growing process is focused on environmental responsibility. They maintain a reserve of natural forest, and 100 hectares of reforestation area planted with pine and cypress. The farm even utilises the pulped coffee beans as organic fertiliser.
Colombian Totoro is produced by small growers in the Tierradentro region, which is on the western side of Cauca. Here, 80% of inhabitants are from the indigenous tribe called “Paeces”. The volcanic soils, along with an annual rainfall of up to 2200mm, make the conditions ideal for coffee growing. This full-bodied coffee perfectly compliments the intense sweetness of the Santa Isabel.
