What is the Cup Of Excellence?
The Cup of Excellence (COE) is the most prestigious coffee event in the world. Once every year, coffee farms from around the world enter their premium beans to the COE. An International coffee board cup the coffees and conduct a blind grading. Cupping evaluations are conducted over a three-stage process. It’s a long yet, delicious journey exploring the world’s finest coffee beans. Once graded, the beans are then auctioned globally.
The best bit? All profits go straight to the farmer. The COE has created immense opportunities for the coffee industry globally. Many small farms have become BIG when their beans place in the ranking.
The Cup of Excellence has made an impressive impact on the coffee industry. Since it’s beginning in 1999, the COE has offered a respectable body of appreciation and support for the farmers. Now, more than ever, coffee roasters and drinkers have been able to connect with coffee farmers. In addition, the COE has set the standard for the increased premiums that farmers have been able to receive for their exemplary coffees.
“The Cup of Excellence competition has pioneered integrity and transparency in the coffee industry, ensuring the value of winning coffees.”
Costa Rica is one of the best coffee regions in Central America. Renowned for diverse flavours ranging from tropical fruits to sweet toffee – we’re always excited to get Costa Rica onto the cupping table. These beans in particular stirred excited at our Perth coffee roastery. With a score of 85.82 we knew we in store for something special with these Costa Rica beans. And the results? Absolutely superb.
The only way to truly experience what these beans have to offer, is to try for yourself!
Pour a cup and discover what everyone is talking about.
Over 100 years of experience, the Finca El Pacayal farm cultivates outstanding coffees that stir excitement across the globe.
Near the outskirts of Poás Volcano, the coffee farm is surrounded by rich greenery, mountaineous terrain and awe-inspiring nature.
Family run, with Juan Carlos Valerio Quesada’s family being the 4th generation to operate the farm.
Soft green apple delivers a unique sweet tang to the cup. Sticky maple syrup follows, spoiling the drinker with a caramelly toffee sweetness that is just scrumptious. Complimented by light citrus notes of lemon, the beans harmonise perfectly, offering a memorable coffee experience.
Roasted for filter brewing, serve these beans up in your AeroPress, V60 or Chemex.
