On Thursday 19th November when we arrived in Margaret River for Gourmet Escape there was a buzz in the air. Foodies from all over Australia were gathering to treat their senses with gourmet delights in the Gourmet Village at Leeuwin Estate Winery and amazing dinners with chefs such as Marco Pierre White, Matt Moran, Rick Stein, Matt Stone, Matt Preston and more.
After the success of 2014 Gourmet Escape we decided to showcase Karvan Coffee in a ‘pop up’ style café. We love talking and interacting with people about our coffee and decided to create a transparent set up so that everyone could see their coffee being made and exactly what the process involved. Summah was kept extremely busy on the espresso machine and we were very glad that we took the Wega 3group Concept. Brad roasted some amazing Karvan Singles especially for the event and the Sumatran Tiger was delicious and very popular in the iced coffees. The affogatos were luxury and a treat with a Karvan Ethiopian Sidamo. Yummo. No wonder they sold out.
As it was such a hot day we decided to serve samples of two iced filters and Lachie and Brad did an amazing job chatting and pouring tasters. Overall, the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe was probably the most popular but as coffee is so personal the earthiness of the Sumatran Blue Bianca did not disappoint.
It was a huge weekend – we all slept well on Monday night.
