This year marks the 5th anniversary of Brad’s involvement in the CEO Sleepout on a personal level and Leaf Bean Machine as a sponsor so I have thought it made sense to ask Brad why he does the CEO Sleepout.
His immediate response: “I love giving back to the community.” As a young boy growing up, Brad’s mum was on her own with three children and often relied on the generosity of her neighbours and friends to put food on the table. “We have all had hard times and sometimes that little bit of help at the right time can make all the difference.”
Brad and I have often commented that business can be tough and there are a lot of people wanting to become speciality coffee roasters in Perth so it is an extremely competitive space. Helping others is so personally rewarding and often helps us feel good about the world too.
During the year Brad fundraises money by donating the proceeds from making coffee at the roastery. “We are not a café but if someone comes in we make them a coffee for a gold coin donation, they all add up and to date we have raised $20,000 for the CEO Sleepout.”
This year Brad wanted to do something different and for the whole month of May we will be doing a pop up cafe here at the roastery. “We are promoting to local businesses that we are open from 7am – 2pm and teaming up with some local cake makers to serve their delicious treats alongside our coffee.”
“The CEO Sleepout is on the 22nd of June at Perth WACA and is an opportunity for awareness and support to be increased in WA. In no way do I think that our one night can be likened to being homeless but it is one way of supporting the people in our society who are most vulnerable and often at their lowest ebb.”
